Under Construction

After a short interruption during the Christmas holidays, construction activities have started again at the southern ring. Activities on the second floor are nearing completion. New railings (glass with a stainless steel frame) have been placed and paintwork and plastering has been completed. Renovation of the toilet blocks was also started and climate ceilings were installed on all floors. Things are starting to take shape!

Cutting the floor openings was quite a challenge; the thickness of the floor between the parking garage and the ground floor is an impressive half a metre! We are really looking forward to the installation of the new staircase, which will connect all levels. At the moment the staircase is being finalized in the factory, it’s arrival is expected in February. We can also report that the real estate team, consisting of DTZ and Cushman & Wakefield, has been expanded with Van Gool Elburg Vastgoedspecialisten.

A piece of history...

In 1940, during the Second World War, platforms for searchlights and anti-aircraft guns were built around Amsterdam and Schiphol. A searchlight was also placed on top of the Apollo House. This searchlight was used to search for aeroplanes at night. Unfortunately air gunners often aimed at searchlights which were easily disabled. The searchlight on top of the Apollo House probably met the same fate. Another interesting fact is that a space was discovered underneath the floor of the library which was used by people in hiding during the Second World War.
